Today’s Shenorock Shore Club is the combination of two previously independent clubs. The building shown here was once known as The Seahorse Yacht Club. And across the street was The Milton Point Casino which featured beach activities and competitive tennis. Both eventually fell into financial distress and disrepair and a group of local citizens formed a buyers syndicate and founded Shenorock Shore Club. As it turned out, near the end of “The Roaring ‘20’s,” the ‘Casino’ hired a young Harvard graduate from New Bedford, Mass for several summers to teach tennis to members and run tournaments. He made many local friends and when he finished medical school and his ophthalmology residency he looked for a way to return to Rye. And eventually he did – and that’s how our family first came to Rye.
